Tule River Quality Education

Overview

Located on the Tule River Reservation, Towanits School has grown one-grade level each year and became a full K-5 elementary school starting the 2017/18 academic year. Towanits School operates a traditional school year (Mid-August and the end of the first week in June) operating M-F from 8:00 am – 2:30 pm for kindergarten and from 8:00 am – 3:00 pm for grades 1-5.Towanits School’s winter, spring, and summer recesses are aligned with those of Porterville Schools to ensure families/students have common days off.

WASC Accredited

Towanits K-5 School was reviewed by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC) Accrediting Commission in the fall of 2016/17 and received its Initial 3-year accreditation from WASC in February 2017.

Mission

To prepare every Tule River Tribal Member and 1^st Descendant child with the academic and cultural knowledge, skills and attitudes needed to pursue a college degree, enter in a professional career of their choice and become a self-sufficient, contributing Member of the Tule River Tribe.

Founded

Towanits School was founded by a motion of the Tule River Tribal Council in June 2015 an educational option for the parents of Tule River Tribal Member and 1^st Descendant children. The new school started August 17, 2015, as a private elementary school serving students in grades K-3.
